新聞社のプレス写真アーカイヴから着想された、最新作の「press++」シリーズ。ルフは、アメリカや日本の報道機関に保管される印画紙にプリントされた写真原稿をスキャンし、画像処理ソフトを使って、画像面と文字などが書き込まれた裏面を1つの画面に統合しました。この手法は1920年代、ジョン・ハートフィールドやラウル・ハウスマンらドイツのダダイストによるフォトモンタージュの手法とも重なります。読売新聞社提供のプレス写真を素材とした作品は世界初公開となります。

Ruff’s latest series, press++, was conceived as an archive of press photographs from a newspaper company. The artist scanned photographs printed on photographic paper that were stored in Japanese and American news agencies, and using an image-processing software, combined the images on the front and the writing on the back into a single picture. This approach has parallels with the photomontage techniques used by German Dadaists such as John Heartfield and Raoul Hausmann in the 1920s. The work, made with press photographs provided by the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper company, makes its world premiere in this exhibition.
